2007 Board Members Present - Joe Kelly (President), Jack McKay (Treasurer), Doug Herring (Handicap Chairman), John Cragoe (Member at Large), Dick Bozanich (Member at Large), and Chuck Byington (Member at Large)

Not Present:

Hugh Pennington (Vice President/Tournament Chairman)

Don Thompson (Secretary)

Dean Morgan (Social Chairman)

Approval of Minutes:

Approval of the last meeting's (8/14/07) minutes was postponed until the next meeting because the Secretary was not present.

Director of Golf Comments (Kevin Earl): Not present.

Treasurer's Report (Jack McKay):

·         Membership at 103.

·         Revenues and expenses are essentially tracking to budget.

Old Business:

Greens Committee Report (Chuck Byington):

It is planned to raise the tee box on Tide #2 to eliminate the "viewbox" presently needed to see the fairway. Questions were raised as to whether this is the most important project for the course and if it is even possible to raise the tee box sufficiently to see the fairway at the bottom of the hill. Byington will bring this up at the next committee meeting.

Fairway sanding will not occur this fall, but will resume in the spring. Sanding causes the fairway level to rise, but the sprinkler heads remain unchanged causing irrigation problems.

The drinking fountain on Tide #6 is now functional and will be faced with stone soon.

Aeration of the greens is finished. Tees and fairway "hard spot" aeration will start Monday, 10/15/07.

The irrigation system will remain pressurized during the winter. This will allow the restrooms to remain open except for severe cold spells when the water will be shut off.

It is requested that each golf group inform their members that pull carts can cause damage to the tees and should be left on the paths or in the grass adjacent to the tee.

The bidding process to replace all golf carts has begun. Three manufactures (Club Car, EZ Go, and Yamaha) will be asked to bid on a three or four year lease arrangement.

Diana Smeland reported ads have been placed with the PGA and LPGA for the position of Director of Golf. A search committee will be formed that includes club members.

Election 2008 (Joe Kelly):

All positions have at least one person running as of this date.

Medal Tournament (Joe Kelly for Hugh Pennington):

The net portion of this month's tournament will be played on 10/10/07. The gross portion will be played on 10/17/07 because a large number of low handicap players are playing away on 10/10/07.

Planning for End of Year Activities (Joe Kelly for Dean Morgan):

Dean is responsible for the dinner.

Doug and Dick are responsible for the prizes - A "tee" prize of some sort (e.g., golf balls) is desirable.

Hugh and Joe are responsible for the awards.

Jack reviewed the program and final changes were made - Joe will comment on the results of the meetings with PLA.

Election - Jack will prepare the ballot. Dick and Chuck will count the votes.

Ad Hoc Committee on Tee Play (Doug Herring):

Doug made a presentation of the committee's findings (see attached report). The following policy was approved by unanimous vote of the board for a one year test with refinements to be made thereafter as deemed appropriate:

1. For Wednesday play day and other MGA tournaments, tee boxes will be designated by player handicap and age:

a. 0-19 handicap players will play from the blue tee boxes.

b. 20 and above handicap players will play from the white tee boxes unless they choose to play the blue tee boxes.

c. Players 75 years of age and older on January 1 have the right to play either white or blue tee boxes during that calendar year.

d. Handicaps existing on first posting date of the playing season will determine the tee box for the entire MGA season.

e. Appeals for exceptions to this policy can be made at any time by making a request to the Handicap Chairman who in turn will present them to the board for consideration.

2. All flights must consist of players playing from only one set of tee boxes.

3. For events with KPs, half the KPs will be designated as "white tee box KPs" and half as "blue tee box KPs." In the event a player is the "winner" of a KP for the tee box he was not assigned, that KP prize will be forfeited and rolled forward to the next MGA event with a KP for that set of tees.

4. A Low Gross prize will be included in only the blue tee box flight containing the lowest handicap players.

Mentoring New Members for 2008 (Joe Kelly):

It was decided to initiate a New Member Mentoring Program beginning in 2008. This program will be similar to that of the Yacht Club's. An existing MGA member will be assigned as a mentor for each new member to "show him the ropes." Funds for this program will be included in the 2008 budget.

Prostate Tournament (Dick Bozanich):

It was decided to sponsor an Arnold Palmer Prostate Tournament as part of the 10/24/07 MGA play. The tournament is a KP on Timber #8. Entry fee is $20.00. Every entrant receives a one year subscription to Golf Digest. First place prize is a $100.00 gift certificate; second place prize is a set of 13 Lamkin golf grips. Assuming this year's tournament is a success, next year's will be scheduled for the Wednesday of the week the ladies have the Rally for the Cure Tournament.

New Business:

Permanent Ludlow Cup Teams (Dick Bozanich):

It was decided to have each member permanently assigned to either the Port or Starboard Ludlow Cup Team and remain on that team as long as he is a member. Initial assignments for existing members will be made by the Handicap Chairman at the start of the 2008 playing season by listing all members alphabetically by last name within GHIN Index and alternating assignments between Port and Starboard teams. As new members join, the Handicap Chairman will make assignments keeping the number and handicaps of the two teams as even as practical.

Respectfully submitted,

Chuck Byington (for Don Thompson)
